02/28/19 Announcements

  • Good morning Euclid High School where we are Respectful, Responsible, and Have Integrity. Today is Thursday, February 28th.
  • Black History fact for today, February 28: On this day in 1932, Richard Spikes invented/patented the automatic gearshift. Remember this invention, students, as you complete your Driver's Education Classes. On this day in 1942, there was riot at the Sojourner Truth Housing Projects in Detroit, Mi. The construction of the complex was promised to house Black defense workers during World War II. White residents living near the project’s location at Nevada and Fenelon Streets protested to change the occupancy to white only, and federal authorities promised to build housing for Black workers elsewhere. After failing to secure an alternative site, these Black workers fought for the right to move into Sojourner Truth, but not without incident. Even though the "race riot" was initiated by white neighbors, the majority of those arrested and mistreated were African-American. This sparked dissonance between the city and its member and has been said to have fueled the riots during the following year of 1943 in Detroit.

After his release, he went on to become the President of South Africa in 1994. Nelson Mandela never wavered in his devotion to democracy, equality and learning. Despite terrible provocation, he never answered racism with racism. His life is an inspiration to all who are oppressed and deprived; and to all who are opposed to oppression and deprivation. He died at his home in Johannesburg in December 2013. Today, we salute Mr. Nelson Mandela.
