02/19/19 Announcements

  • Good morning Euclid High School where we are Respectful, Responsible, and Have Integrity. Today is Tuesday, February 19th.
  • Black History fact for today, February 19: On this day in 1942, the Army Air Corps' all African American 100th Pursuit Squadron, later designated a fighter squadron, was activated at Tuskegee Institute. The squadron served honorably in England and in other regions of the European continent during World War II. On this day in 1992, John Singleton, the first African American director to be nominated for the Academy Award is nominated for best director and best screenplay for his first film Boyz N’ the Hood. Shout out to all of our film, photography, and visual communications students pursuing some of the same goals as Mr. Singleton. On this day in 2002, Vonetta Flowers became the first black gold medalist in the history of the Winter Olympic Games. She and partner Jill Brakken won the inaugural women's two-person bobsled event.
  • The L.E.A.D. Scholars invite everyone to join us tomorrow for our Zumba class. As part of our Fit In February initiative, we are focusing on mental, physical, and emotional wellness. Our compliment cards, random act of kindness, and yoga class helped get things started. Tomorrow we'll fuse hip-hop and aerobic workout as we concentrate on physical wellness. There's no charge, just bring your sneakers, workout gear, and an open mind. We'll see you tomorrow by the girls' gym at 2:50. And now for the results of the Black History Door Decorating Contest... We had awesome participation and the time and effort the teams contributed was great. It was a close contest but there had to be a winner. In 3rd place was room 291 (Ms. Baukman's Team) with their installation celebrating Kara Walker; in 2nd place with a tribute to Gordon Parks was room 198 (Ms. Micelli and her team); and in 1st place with a tribute to Mary Jackson and her contributions to NASA was room 134 (Ms. Langford and her team). A special shout out to Mr. Cleaver and Ms. Aponte-Brown's teams: these doors went above and beyond and included full door displays. Thanks to everyone that participated. Be sure you get around to see the doors and start panning for next year!
