Morning Announcements - February 16, 2023

Good morning Euclid High School where we are Respectful, Responsible, and Engaged. Today is Thursday, February 16, 2023 and these are your morning announcements.

THE R-FACTOR - We do not control the events that happen to us but we CAN control our response to them!  I am responsible for my decisions and my behavior.  You are responsible for your decisions and your behavior.  I take ownership OF ALL MY CHOICES and ACTIONS, regardless of circumstance.  I always have a choice in my response!  Pressing pause, or counting to 10, or taking a deep breath before you react to something, helps in making the right choice!!

It is time for our Black History Month fact of the day
Did you know that the youngest US soldier to die in combat was an African American?
a.    On June 7th 1969, at Quang Nam, Vietnam, Dan Bullock was killed in his bunker by the North Vietnamese, he was only 15 years old.
b.    Dan altered the date on his birth certificate when he was 14, and enlisted in the Marine Corps.
c.    He had only been in Vietnam for 3 weeks before being killed.
A section of Lee Avenue in Brooklyn was renamed after him and a state marker was erected in North Carolina where he was born to commemorate his sacrifice.

Students!  Do you want to play in the Student vs. Staff Basketball game in March?  Only 22 students have signed up so far!!!  Some of the teachers that are playing:  Mr. Howard, Mr. Kelly, Officer Powell, Mr. Toth, Mr. Santilli, and MORE!!!   Scan the QR code on the basketball posters around the school and fill out the form!  You must be referral free for the 3rd quarter to participate.

Students- Loaner laptops are meant to be daily loaners. You are to return the laptop to room 375 by the end of the day. Parents or guardians of any student that has not returned the loaner laptop will be contacted. Loaners are not for the long term. They are to help you for a day or so. If you need a laptop for a longer period of time due to loss or damage of your issued Chromebook, pay your Chromebook insurance fee and you will be issued a new Chromebook in your name. Fees can be directly paid on Infinite Campus or at the treasurer's office in the cafeteria by the bathrooms. Fees don't go away. Every student is assessed a technology fee of $20 per year. The fee covers the use and routine maintenance of the Chromebook and is a fee that is added every year the student attends Euclid City Schools. All fees must be paid in full before a student can graduate or have their transcripts transferred to another district, so it is best to pay fees each year rather than let them accumulate. If a Chromebook does get damaged, the technology fee will cover the first repair only. After that, the family is responsible for the cost of any further damage or replacement. Pay them now to keep up each year. Again, return the loaner laptop to room 375 at the end of each day. As always, do not leave your Chromebook or charger unattended. Thank you.

Sophomores!! The priority application for Career Tech programs closes THIS SUNDAY! Students who apply by Sunday night will be considered for placement into programs for next school year. To apply, go to lakeshorecompact.org or stop by the counseling office and se Ms. Hunt, Ms. Mattinson or Mrs. Miezin for help.

Reminder - Students in a Mentor or Auburn CTE program, including seniors in Fire & EMT, must still attend their Career Tech programs tomorrow. Buses will be running at their normal times to and from EHS and program locations. Euclid hosted programs are closed.

There is still time to participate in the Black History Door Decorating Contest!! The LEAD Scholars are asking that each door represent our past as well as our present (For example, Maya Angelou with Amanda Gorman, Wilma Rudolph with Allyson Felix or Jessica Beard, Thurgood Marshall with Ketanji Brown, etc...). We are looking for teams, consisting of no more than 3 students and a teacher, who are interested in designing/decorating their door. If you wish to participate or have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Davis (H130F) or Mrs. Walling (H279).  Contest winners will be announced Thursday, February 23, 2023

The lady’s and gentleman's African-American Achievement groups will be hosting their first Culture Potluck on February 22, 2023 from 2:45 PM until 4:00pm. For more information, see Mr. York in room H240A or Ms. Davis in room H130F.

Bring out the best in you by pressing pause, getting your mind right, and cutting BCD out of your life, and have a great day at The Euclid High School.
