Morning Announcements - February 3, 2023

Good morning Euclid High School where we are Respectful, Responsible, and Engaged. Today is Friday, February 3, 2023 and these are your morning announcements.

Leaders Create Culture, Culture Drives Behavior, Behavior Produces Results. Students, teachers, counselors, educational assistants, secretaries, security, nurses, cafeteria workers, custodians, social workers, administrators and parents are the leaders of Euclid High School. We are all leaders and our school will perform to the level of leadership you provide. It is no secret that the critical factor in the success of a school is the quality of its leaders. Remember, leadership isn’t a difference maker, it is the difference maker. Often what differentiates a great school from an average school is the effectiveness of its leaders.

It is time for our Black History Month fact of the day!
1.    Did you know that one of the greatest African American athletes ever is from the Cleveland area? No I’m not talking about Lebron James!
a.    That athlete was James Cleveland Owens, or JC Owens, which his teacher pronounced as Jesse, and the name stuck!
b.    Jesse went to high school at East Tech in Cleveland and Ohio State
University
c.    In 1936 he shocked the world by winning 4 gold medals in the Summer Olympics held in Nazi Germany. Despite hatred and threats to his life he stood up and won gold in the 100, 200, 4 by 100 yard dash, and also the long jump!
Jesse’s victory’s not only became a great inspiration to the African American community, but brought great unity between white and black Americans

The lady’s and gentleman's African-American Achievement groups will be hosting the first Culture Potluck on February 22, 2023 from 2:45 PM until 4:00pm. If you haven’t joined already, this event might change your mind. For more information, see Mr. York in room H240A or Ms. Davis in room H130F.

Happy Black History Month scholars and staff! The LEAD Scholars are back with our annual Black History Door Decorating Contest. This year, we want to tie our theme to the Black History Assembly, "Black Excellence and Achievement: History in the Making". We are asking that each door represent our past as well as our present (i.e., Maya Angelou with Amanda Gorman, Wilma Rudolph with Allyson Felix or Jessica Beard, Thurgood Marshall with Ketanji Brown, etc...). We are looking for teams, consisting of no more than 3 students and a teacher, who are interested in designing/decorating their door. If you wish to participate or have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Davis (H130F) or Mrs. Walling (H279). Contest winners will be announced Thursday, February 23, 2023.
