Morning Announcements - February 7, 2023

Good morning Euclid High School where we are Respectful, Responsible, and Engaged. Today is Tuesday, February 7, 2023 and these are your morning announcements.

It is time for our Black History Month fact of the day!Did you know that Hattie McDaniel was the first African American to win an Oscar Award?
a. She starred in one of the first color films back in 1939 titled Gone With the Wind, a Civil War story
b. Her performance as a slave titled Mammy, won her the Best Supporting Actress award
c. Sadly she was unable to attend the movie premier in Atlanta due to Jim Crow Laws, smh
d. Hattie didn’t let this slow her down though, she went on to star in over 300 movies!

In celebration of Black History Spirit week, remember to dress as your Favorite Black Artist on Friday. Black Excellence History in the Making!

The lady’s and gentleman's African-American Achievement groups will be hosting the first Culture Potluck on February 22, 2023 from 2:45 PM until 4:00pm. For more information, see Mr. York in room H240A or Ms. Davis in room H130F.

Happy Black History Month scholars and staff! The LEAD Scholars are back with our annual Black History Door Decorating Contest. This year, we want to tie our theme to the Black History Assembly, "Black Excellence and Achievement: History in the Making". We are asking that each door represent our past as well as our present (i.e., Maya Angelou with Amanda Gorman, Wilma Rudolph with Allyson Felix or Jessica Beard, Thurgood Marshall with Ketanji Brown, etc...). We are looking for teams, consisting of no more than 3 students and a teacher, who are interested in designing/decorating their door. If you wish to participate or have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Davis (H130F) or Mrs. Walling (H279). Contest winners will be announced Thursday, February 23, 2023.

Lelani - Hey students! Do you have a Valentine? Do you have a favorite friend? Would you like to show someone how much you appreciate them WELL THE BUY THEM A CRUSH GRAM!!! Student Council will be selling Crush Grams next week. What is a Crush Gram, you ask? It's a simple note and a can of Crush pop that will be sent to anyone you choose! Student Council will be selling the Grams during lunch periods Monday-Friday. They will be 50 cents! If you don't have a lunch period, or you missed the sellers, please come see Mrs. Pollack and Mrs. Korpowski in room 140C!

Attention all Students. Come to school every day from January 23rd to February 16th to be entered into a weekly drawing to win a gift basket full of treats, gift cards, Brown’s swag, and Euclid swag. Students will be entered into the drawing each week they attend school daily. In addition to winning a gift basket, students will also be entered into a districtwide drawing for a Round One gift card.

Pantherette Try-out Clinics will be held February 6th-9th, 13th, 15th, and 16th from 3-6pm. Auditions will be held February 20th starting at 4:00. All will be held in the Band Room.

All National Honor Society applications are due this Thursday. See Mr. Zucca if you have any questions.
Sophomores, if you want to apply for career tech, go to lakeshore compact.org. If you have any questions see Ms. Mattinson, Ms. Miezin, or Ms. Hunt in the guidance office.

Students must park The students parking lot is between the Sparky (the old stadium) and Tracy Avenue.
