Morning Announcements - February 23, 2023

Good morning Euclid High School where we are Respectful, Responsible, and Engaged. Today is Thursday, February 23, 2023 and these are your morning announcements.

THE R-FACTOR - Panthers use their Strength of relationships to create inclusive communities. We establish an environment where everyone feels welcome. Work collectively to form a sense of belonging in a supportive environment. Ensure that all voices are heard and represented. What is the soil like in your 20 square feet? Are you someone where others can grow around? Or do people wither in your presence? Choose an R, that gets the best O for you and others.

It is time for our Black History Month fact of the day
Do you know why Black History Month is the month of February?
a. The creator of the idea, Carter Woodson, had two favorite American heroes, Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.
b. Both Lincoln and Douglass share February birthdays, therefore he chose the month of February to commemorate black history.

Students!  Do you want to play in the Student vs. Staff Basketball game in March?  Only 22 students have signed up so far!!!  Some of the teachers that are playing:  Mr. Russell, and MORE!!!   Scan the QR code on the basketball posters around the school and fill out the form!  You must be referral free for the 3rd quarter to participate.  

Well, it hadn’t happened for 30 years and now it has happened twice. Earlier this year Taylor Barwick received a perfect score on an Ohio Math League contest and now William Jones has done it. Congratulations, William. What an accomplishment! Also, congratulations to Toni Kincaid for finishing in second place. Easton Harris was third. Taylor and Neo Knue tied for fourth. The last contest will be in March.

Attention Juniors: SAT is March 1. To participate in the College Board Student Survey that can connect you to college, career and scholarship information, you must submit the consent form signed by your parent or guardian. Return the signed form to the main office. If you need another copy, see Mrs. Coy in H372.

Reminder SAVE Environmental Club meets today after school.  We will be discussing possible spring projects such as a butterfly garden and/or clean up.  Don't forget recycling is available outside 230E!  Questions see Ms. Spivey,  one of your favorite tree huggers.

Voting for the first round of "Locura de marzo" begins Friday! Scan the QR code on the pod display to be part of this international competition. The first round matches the top seeded Colombian collaboration "Quinientos seis" (506) vs. the bottom seeded Andean pop song "Maravilloso".  Voting for round one closes on Monday!

The LEAD Scholars are excited to see the great work of those who are participating in the Black History Door Decorating Contest. We know people are working extremely hard; therefore, we have decided to add an additional day to put the finishing touches on each of the doors.  Contest winners will be announced on Friday, February 24, 2023. If you wish to participate or have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Davis (H130F) or Mrs. Walling (H279). Good luck to all participants!
